CC 10, Algonquin 7

The Concord-Carlisle girl’s lacrosse team continued their working vacation by hosting Algonquin Friday morning at Memorial Field, notching a 10-7 win. Algonquin aggressively attacked right away, but their number five, Juliet Chapin, who proved to be their major offensive threat, fired a dangerous propel shot that turned the ball over to CC, and sophomore Payton Vaughn took the ball immediately the other way all the way to goal, only to have the goalie catch the tipped shot. Cassidy Hale recovered the ball with a check and fed Hannah Dudley for CC’s first goal. CC kept the momentum with an immediate draw control by CC’s Madeline Leahy, as she fed it up for another Hale to Dudley goal. Between false starts by Algonquin and a well-oiled Johanna O’Neil to Dudley draw machine, CC seemed to control most of the draws for the remainder of the game. Algonquin scored their first goal at the twenty-one minute mark, and then a second on a free position shot with a low bouncer to tie it 2-2. The pressure of CC’s defense led to an intercepted low pass by Leahy who took it all the way to goal to make it 3-2. Another O’Neil to…

Concord 9 – Marblehead 6

The Concord-Carlisle girl’s lacrosse team began April vacation with a 9-6 win over the Marblehead Magicians. Although Marblehead pinged a shot off the post to open the game, it remained scoreless for seven minutes as CC kept their patience and Hannah Dudley scored after receiving a great feed from Johanna O’Neil. CC brought a renewed sense of movement on offense, constantly cutting in front of the Marblehead net, and grit and tenacity on defense, forcing Marblehead to work extra hard through midfield pressure just to get the ball upfield. Much of the game was back and forth, and the action low to the ground, aggressively scooping ground balls and pressuring along the sidelines, causing turnovers that soon led to goals. Sophie Shipe pressured a sideline play that led to CC’s second goal by Dudley. The back-and-forth play continued until the fourteen-minute mark, when the Magicians had the ball at the CC end, but could not conjure a way through the Patriots’ defense. After some near forced turnovers, Brianna Stout came up with the ball, fed it to Dudley, who sent it to Payton Vaughn to take up the field, where Kylee Bowen circled the net and gave it to O’Neil…

Concord defeated by Franklin

CC could not regain their early first half lead Thursday, losing to a skilled Franklin team 13-7. This year’s team remembers all too well losing a very close game in overtime to Franklin in the Division 1 East sectional finals two years ago. Last year it was CCs turn to beat Franklin in the regular season. The rivalry continued this season as Abby Flynn opened with two saves of her fourteen for the half, letting Madeline Leahy and Hannah Dudley strike first for CC. For the rest of the half CC traded goals with Franklin, with a side-arm shot by Dudley and shots by Kylee Bowen and Payton Vaughn, who streaked up the field with a long pass from Sophie Shipe, keeping it close, ending the half trailing 7-5. Amelia Slade minded the net for CC in the second half, stopping 7 of 13 shots. Joanna O’Neil continued to team with Dudley to win many draw controls and Bowen and Leahy netted their second goals. CC Wins 13-8 against Wayland

The Concord-Carlisle girls lacrosse team visited Wayland Tuesday afternoon and left with another win, 13-8. Cassidy Hale struck quickly with an assist from Johanna O’Neill. Goals were added by Kylee Bowen, Madeline Leahy and Hannah Dudley, with two. Wayland came to play, however, keeping the scoring low with the first half ending with C-C up 5-3. Abby Flynn was steady in the net with 3 saves on 6 shots. Wayland came back early in the second half to tie it 5-5, despite aggressive double- and triple-teaming by C-C on their top scorers. Wayland then pulled ahead, leading 9-7. Hannah Dudley stepped up with authority in the second half, controlling seven draws, taking it to goal twice while scoring the first five goals of the second half, with assists from O’Neill, Brianna Stout and Sophie Shipe. With junior Amelia Slade in net for the second half, making two exciting saves in a row to hold a 9-8 lead, the C-C defense permanently shut down the Wayland offense for the final ten minutes. Payton Vaughn had an outstanding game on defense, sticking like glue to the Wayland attackers and coming up with four ground balls, three caused turnovers and contributing two draw…

CC Wins D1 East Title!

https://concord.wickedlocal.com/article/20150611/SPORTS/150618521 It didn’t slip away this time. One year after bowing to Franklin in overtime in the MIAA Division 1 East final, the Concord-Carlisle girls lacrosse team withstood a late charge from Lincoln-Sudbury to win the sectional title, 9-8 on Thursday, June 11. “This game started out the same way our game against Franklin did last year—we jumped out to a big lead,” C-C coach Paul Morrison said. “But this lead was bigger and L-S didn’t really get its response until the second half.” Said L-S coach Bowen Holden, “Ever since the beginning of the season, we’ve been battling. They had to battle to get into the tournament, and then once they were in, they made a run I don’t think anyone expected. They did that because of their fight and attitude to never quit.” After C-C (19-1-1) extended its lead to 8-3 with two quick goals at the start of the second frame, sophomore Courtney Quirk and junior Clara Bisson ignited the Warriors’ comeback. Quirk, who netted three of her four goals in the final 25 minutes, cut the team’s deficit to 8-5 when she scored goals with 18:27 and 17:16 remaining. L-S (10-7-3) continued to fight in the…

Patriots Score Early and Often in Opener

The Concord-Carlisle girls lacrosse team began the season looking for somebody who could replace the scoring that recent graduates Becca Olsen and Allie Barrett provided the Patriots last year. In the team’s season opener on Tuesday, 11 players found the back of the net, giving C-C a 15-2 victory over Bedford at Sabourin Field. “We’re a very athletic team,” said C-C coach Paul Morrison, whose team reached the MIAA Division 1 East finals last year before falling to Franklin in overtime. “I was happy with the way we moved the ball and went aggressively to the net.” The Patriots led, 12-0 at halftime. C-C finished the game with three straight goals from Sophie Shipe, Catherine Gouchoe and Grace Andonian. For Shipe and Andonian, it was the second goal for each. Lexi Goodhue and Hannah Dudley also scored twice each. Dudley, a junior, was an All-American last year and has already committed to play for Stanford University. Audrey Hunt, Madeline Leahy, Jenna Carlton, Cameryn McCormack, Lucie Gildehaus, Cassidy Hale and Gouchoe scored one each. Conley Ernst and Abby Flynn played in goal for C-C. For Flynn, it was her first varsity appearance. C-C plays Dual County League newcomer Cambridge Rindge &…
